This is something special – the opportunity to run in Africa’s oldest game reserve, iMfolozi.
For the first time ever, a trail run will be held in a Big 5 Game Reserve, and you have the chance to be a part of what is set to be one of the best combinations of trail running, bushveld and entertainment.
The CHERY iMfolozi Outrun is like nothing else you have ever done before. Running free through the Oldest Game Reserve in Africa, iMfolozi, is a privilege that only a few are afforded once every year. And in 2026, we are introducing a shorter version for those who find Day 1’s 20km route a touch intimidating. You can now choose to do the full “Rhino” event, or the half “Warthog” event:
Events
CHERY iMfolozi Outrun
WARTHOG

The Warthog distance will simply start approximately halfway along the route on Day 1. Entry fee remains the same for both distances.

Supporters
Supporters are welcome at the event, even though there will be very limited viewing of the runners during each day due to the remoteness of the route itself. Supporters can enjoy game drives and other activities that the reserve has to offer while waiting for your runners to come in, as well as the event offerings outside of the run itself.
Supporters who wish to purchase the meal package can do so at a cost of:
R1250 per person
This price includes your park entry fees, 6 meals and the Sundowners Tour on Saturday afternoon.
Kids U12 pay R495
Supporters packages need to be booked for and paid online.

Ethos
The Ethos of this event is to gather a group of like-minded trail enthusiasts in order to experience Africa’s Oldest Game Reserve on foot, in an event that is totally unique. It is not about the run and how fast you can do it, but about spending a weekend in a reserve that has stood the test of time, that is the centre of the world’s Southern White Rhino gene pool. The event is focused on raising much needed funds for the iMfolozi Game Reserve.
Safety
Safety for this event is of course our primary focus. The event operates a vast majority of the safety measures through the use of a helicopter, with trained and professional guides and staff in the chopper. In addition, several EKZNW foot patrol members are located at strategic points on the route, as well as 22 EKZNW Honorary Officers check points to ensure best possible safety practices.
Refund Policy
Should the event be cancelled due to government imposed regulations, then all entries shall receive a 90% refund on the entry fee. The bank and online fee is unfortunately non-refundable. Should the event be cancelled for any other reason other than negligence on behalf of the organisers, or should a runner not be able to make the event for whatever reason, including illness, then the following refund policy will be applied:
More than 90 Days: 80% Refund
60-90 Days: 50% Refund
30-60 Days: 30% Refund
